Adjustable

  • Variable strength “notch” sensation
  • Fine tuning of position locations

The process of developing “muscle memory” instead of using visual cues to move the slide accurately is
greatly simplified using TromboneBuddy™. The tactile sensations are produced magnetically, and can be
adjusted in strength by changing the gap between the magnet and the position markers. Beginners may
choose to employ the highest level, then can “wean” from the position trainer as skill develops.

The trombone’s exact position locations are accurately predictable from mathematical calculations of known
sound column length to frequency relationships for a given bore instrument. However, there are slight
differences in reference points, length and acoustic properties of the slide’s crook, as well as other factors
which cause slight variations in position locations between different instruments of a given bore. While
Trombone Buddy™ships with the positions marked using mathematical calculations of known sound
column length / frequency relationships, provisions for custom adjustments to accommodate different
trombones are a designed feature of the device.

Accordingly, every TromboneBuddy™ ships with a tool to adjust both how much “notch” sensation the
player feels, and where each position is marked.
